A Marion Grierson Film This akmost 10 minute film, produced by Marion Grierson who led the Travel and Industrial Development Association’s (TIDA) film unit, showcases the diverse attractions available to visitors in Edinburgh. The film features stunning visuals of bustling streets, serene parks and famous landmarks, including trams and other modes of transport. Credit to : Old Archives Despite being overshadowed by her brother John, a prominent figure in the British documentary movement and her sister Ruby, whose life was tragically cut short, Marion Grierson had an impressive career in documentary filmmaking. Her distinctive style incorporated a range of sophisticated techniques, coupled with a light and assured touch. Although her films were more popular abroad than in the UK, they offer a valuable record of British life. Most were created in the 1930s, during the peak of the British documentary movement. Despite their significance, these films remain largely unknown today.
