One of the most scenic railway journeys in Europe, the 63-mile route from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh, has been threatened with closure for over ten years – recently it was granted another stay of execution. Derek Cooper travels along the line, meeting some of those who live along it and work on it.

Derek Cooper will be familiar to many as the voice of Tomorrow’s World – here is a rare opportunity to put a face to that distinctive, mellifluous voice.

Clip taken from Breathing Space, originally broadcast on BBC One Scotland, 3 January, 1974.
