Two of football’s finest Jimmys – Jimmy Greaves and Jimmy Hill (this was before the Jimmy Glass era) – are joined by broadcaster David Frost, actor Tom Courtenay and long-distance runner Dave Bedford in a charity 5-a-side football team – the Goaldiggers. The esteemed group of celebrities are currently being put through their paces on a makeshift sand pitch by the finest players that Frean Street Youth Club in Bermondsey has to offer. Their mission? To raise funds to provide playing fields for inner city kids… and to hold the skillful young upstarts to a draw. The match referee is film director Bryan Forbes, while moral support for the Goaldiggers is provided by celebrity fans Michael Parkinson and Jimmy Tarbuck. Your match commentator is Bob Wellings. Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, 2 October, 1972.
