Wheelbase charts the design history of motor racing cars over the past seven decades, from the Cannstatt Daimler of 1898 to the modern Lotus Formula 1 car of 1968.

At the Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, a cross section of classic and modern racing cars has been lined up on the grid – each one typifying, in some way, its motor racing era.

Cars featured (in the order they appear) are: 1968 Lotus, 1958 Vanwall, 1956 Connaught, 1936 ERA, 1938 Mercedes, 1936 Bugatti type 35, 1918 Straker-Squire, 1914 Sunbeam, 1908 Napier, 1908 Itala, 1927 Delage, and the1898 Cannstatt Daimler.
